Discover The Variations Of Navicular Disease Treatment

The navicular bone is a boat shaped, small size that is nestled deep at the hooves and only measures about two centimeters deep and six centimeters wide on a horse. This bone may be small but it brings a lot of problem to a horse due to the fact that it is small, abode and cushy stature. Even though this bone is small, it has a huge responsibility and offer a great help on horses in their daily activities. When it comes with navicular disease treatment, individuals can perform the treatment by themselves and allow the horses to give time for them to rest.

Horse owners and veterinarians knows that there are symptoms and problems that will affect the horses anatomies. Some of it can be treated within the right time but some are more severe and leave the equine lame and never be fixed. Some cases involve depending on the breed of horse and becomes more worst when they reach a certain age.

The bone called navicular is a small bone that sit deeply inside the hooves right in the junction of pastern and coffin bones. This have a shape similar to a canoe. It has lots of soft tissues that attaches to other parts of the body. It has associated structures and the anatomy is very complex.

The primary step is to assess the lameness of hooves and the pain it brings and a careful evaluation about the structure of hoof. The treatment procedure must be based on the location and type of diseases. Shoeing is the first step of all treatments. Surgical and medicinal therapies must only be followed once shoeing is not effective.

It is very recommended if the treatment does not work, next procedure has to be applied. It would be better to make the changes gradual which start from conservative to a more drastic solution. Many equines respond favorably with changes in shoeing and medications. When the feet have abnormal conformation, the primary step is to make the foot in balance. The horses responses during the treatment must be recorded to see which one is working.

Surgical treatments is the most reliable formed of treatment and has been proven to help horses back and free from their lameness. This have been performed by many veterinarians around the world over many years. There have been many techniques developed to surgically helped the navicular bone and rid the disease from affecting it any further.

When owners faced that treatment is not effective, they can try to inquire a veterinarian to perform an MRI. This will identify the veterinarian the causes of problems and help them decide to counter the issue. Surgical treatment is still the last hope when all else fails.

Get referrals from your fellow ranchers, horse loves, friends and loved ones. They may have some ideas where to get the treatment and the veterinarian that can administer the treatments. They may share some personal experience if their horses have suffered the same fate as yours. Call them and ask for a few referrals.

Budgeting is very important. Individuals will have to be financially prepared to pay for all the possible expenses that might occur during the procedure. Contact the vets and compare ask for estimation before making a decision.
