Menopausal Women Should Seek Treatment For Sleep Apnea To Fend Off Complications

By Nancy Meyer

Menopause comes with all kinds of symptoms, many of which can be really bothersome. One of those is insomnia that's usually brought about by pesky night sweats. Some menopausal women, however, may feel like they are not entirely rejuvenated even though insomnia is not bugging them. There are situations in which it can be blamed on a sleep disorder that is known to affect so many women who are already in the menopausal phase. Below are a few reasons why it's highly suggested for all affected women to get treatment for sleep apnea without any delay.

Everyone knows that getting 7 to 9 hours of restorative every single night is crucial. Despite of enjoying such, it may seem like you're still lacking in mental and physical energy the next day. It's possible that the culprit is what doctors call sleep apnea.

Refrain from taking this sleep disorder sitting down. Basically, it's something that causes breathing cessations while you are getting some shut eye at night. Those pauses in your breathing may occur a few times only. However, it's actually possible for them to happen hundreds of times a night, experts say. It goes without saying that having breathing cessations can deprive your different internal organs of their oxygen demand, and your brain is just one of them.

This is exactly the reason why a menopausal woman who is affected by the said disorder is likely to suffer from headaches the next day. It's very much possible for her to also experience cognitive decline, which is what most people refer to as brain fog. Mood swings, anxiety and depression common during menopause can become exacerbated as well.

You may also feel extremely lethargic all day long. Certainly, excessive daytime sleepiness can keep your day from being an enjoyable and a productive one. It's very much possible for you to switch to a more sedentary lifestyle. Failure to obtain enough physical activity can exacerbate a common menopause symptom, and that's unwanted gaining of weight.

The scary thing about robbing the brain of sufficient amounts of oxygen is it can raise a woman's risk of having a stroke. Its likelihood is significantly increased if heart disease is around. The said disease can worsen uncontrollably if it's coupled with the disorder.

A menopausal woman's blood pressure, for instance, can end up abnormally high. It's common knowledge that high blood pressure or hypertension is regarded as a risk factor for deadly heart disease. High blood pressure in individuals who are diagnosed with heart disease can put the heart under a lot of stress. This is something that can cause heart failure to happen one day.

Your blood sugar levels may also become increased. This paves the way for a condition known as insulin resistance. Put simply, it is the inability of your cells to respond to the hormone insulin, thus causing sugar to collect in your blood. You may find yourself battling type 2 diabetes if you fail to put it under control. There are many complications associated with type 2 diabetes, and having them around can make your menopausal life even more difficult.
